Birth of a legend by mckinneyc Birth of a legend by mckinneyc
I always thought the clam shell hanger bay an odd anomaly to the design, even more so when Enterprise came along. My theory is that the hanger bay was a late addition to the design, the ship having been built and the crew finding the dorsal airlock far too small and troublesome for resupply operations etc, the curved nature of the bay being decided upon to negate any possible impact on impulse speeds and the ship's warp field.

I am a little confused. This is the XCV-330 S.S. ENTERPRISE DECLARATION CLASS "Ring-Ship" you are talking about, and not the Constitution Class's Hanger Bay door at the rear of the secondary hull? I ask because I have not seen this model before, nor any drawings showing the hemispherical area with an access for shuttles. Do you have a link to the model?
